Cape Town City return to winning ways as Polokwane City rise to third

Cape Town City came from behind to record a 2-1 win over Richards Bay in Betway Premiership action on Friday night as Polokwane City defeated SuperSport United 1-0.

Cape Town City 2-1 Richards Bay

Muhsin Ertugral secured his third Betway Premiership win in just his fourth game with a 2-1 home victory over Richards Bay on Friday night.

The experienced mentor kicked off his City reign, following the sacking of Eric Tinkler, with 1-0 victories over Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates before going down 1-0 to Marumo Gallants.

But they were back to winning ways with Amadou Soukouna cancelling out an eighth minute opener from Yanela Mbuthuma with goals in the 41st and 59th minutes.

The result saw the Citizens move up to fifth place on the standings with 20 points, from 14 games.

Richards Bay, who fired Brandon Truter in November after a woeful start to their season, remain in 14th place with nine points, having won only two games all campaign.

There were signs of improvement under interim boss Ronnie Gabriel in recent weeks, with the Natal Rich Boyz coming into this game after beating Golden Arrows 1-0 and drawing 0-0 with Marumo Gallants.

He has guided the team to three losses, one draw and one win.

SuperSport United 0-1 Polokwane City

Oswin Appollis was the hero for Polokwane City with a winning goal in the 42nd minute against SuperSport United in the Betway Premiership on Friday.

Rise and Shine continue to thrive in the South African top-flight and picked up their seventh win of the season to jump one place into third, with 25 points from their 14 games place,

Phuti Mohafe's team are nine points better off than Gavin Hunt's charges, who find themselves down in 10th place with four wins, four draws and six losses.

SuperSport were not without their chances though and Eric Mbangossoum was probably the closest to an equaliser with a header he fired against an upright.

City, meanwhile, wasted a chance to extend their lead when Manuel Kambala was denied from the penalty spot by Thakasani Mbanjwa as SuperSport striker Samir Nurkovic fired a late drive onto the Polokwane crossbar.
