Carling Knockout wrap: Stellenbosch eliminate Chippa to reach quarter-finals

Stellenbosch advanced in the Carling Knockout with a 2-1 victory over Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the round of 16.

Second-half goals by Andre de Jong and Kgaogelo Sekgota secured the win for Steve Barker's team.

Menzi Ndwandwe reduced the deficit for Chippa United, but they couldn't find a second goal, and their cup woes continued.

Lloyd Kazapua was busy in the first half, making crucial saves for Stellenbosch, while Sage Stephens denied Zuko Mdunyelwa's long-range effort.

Stellenbosch dominated in the second half, with De Jong and Sekgota finding the net, securing their place in the next round.

Golden Arrows defeat Cape Town City in Carling Knockout Cup

Golden Arrows triumph over Cape Town City, clinching a well-deserved spot in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory on Saturday.

The match kicked off with both teams showing signs of sluggishness, but Arrows sprang to life in the 28th minute, delivering a stunning opening goal. Tebogo Tlolane, executing a crafty manoeuvrer, cut inside from a clever decoy run, curling the ball into the top corner to make it 1-0.

However, the Cape Town City side had their own plans, pulling level in the 36th minute. A well-timed blind run by Taahir Goedeman allowed him to evade the offside trap, and he calmly slotted Khanyisa Mayo's pass into the net, stunning Arrows' goalkeeper.

As the teams retreated to the dressing rooms for half-time, the home team made a strategic substitution, replacing Lungelo Nguese with Knox Mutizwa, a change that would prove pivotal.

Mutizwa wasted no time making an impact. His darting run into the box drew a foul from the City defence, earning Arrows a penalty. Nduduzo Sibiya, who earlier saw his shot ricochet off the crossbar, stepped up to convert the penalty, restoring Arrows' lead at 2-1 in the 47th minute.

The momentum continued to favour Arrows, with Mutizwa notching his name on the scoresheet in the 54th minute. He arrived unmarked at the far post, latching onto Angel Van Rooi's precise low cross to drive the ball into the back of the net.

Despite late chances at both ends, it was the Abafana Besthende who remained composed, clinching the victory and securing their place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout.
