Carlos Alcaraz bolsters Everton's midfield in last-gasp loan move

Alcaraz, who previously played for Southampton, joins to provide depth in the midfield, especially following an injury to Orel Mangala.

The loan move includes a conditional obligation for Everton to buy Alcaraz for approximately 15 million pounds, should he meet a specified number of appearances this season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Before the transfer was finalized, Flamengo's manager Filipe Luis spoke about Alcaraz's decision to move. "Alcaraz called me on Thursday and said, 'Filipe, I want to talk. I have an offer from Everton. Are you counting on me?'" Luis recounted to Placar.

He advised Alcaraz to fight for his place but acknowledged his decision to leave after a sincere conversation where Alcaraz expressed his intent to try for his position.

Despite the departure, Luis expressed his fondness for Alcaraz, noting his work ethic and spirit. "Why did he get minutes? Because he doesn't give up, he wants to learn, he tries, he fights, he makes an effort," Luis said.

He admitted feeling a sense of personal and professional regret over Alcaraz's exit but wished him well.

Upon his arrival at Everton, Alcaraz shared his enthusiasm for the new chapter. "I am very happy to join Everton, such a great club, with a very good fanbase," Alcaraz mentioned in an interview on Everton's official website.

He committed to giving his all to help elevate Everton, stating, "I want to tell the fans that whenever I wear this shirt, I will give my best, I will give everything I have to take Everton to the top, which is where they deserve to be."

Everton's sporting director, Kevin Thelwell, praised the signing, "Charly is a welcome addition to the squad and a player who brings Premier League and international experience and, at the age of 22, has potential to get even better."

Manager David Moyes also highlighted the necessity of the signing, "We've been looking to add players to the squad to give us more depth, particularly after the recent injuries we've picked up.

"Carlos has Premier League experience, he's still young, and we believe he can bring some energy to the team which will help us between now and the end of the season."

This move aims to bolster Everton's campaign as they look to climb the Premier League standings and secure a stable mid-table position.
