Eric Tinkler reveals trophy desire for Cape Town City

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says winning silverware this season is part of his mandate at the club.

The Citizens are therefore targeting the Carling Knockout having now made it to the quarterfinals and face Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

Tinkler wants to quickly forget about the 3-0 defeat away to Mamelodi Sundowns earlier in the week at Loftus.

'Yeah, exactly let's not think about the past, let's think of the future, move on from the Sundowns game. Obviously, the focus now turns to this game against Richards Bay. Our target and our objectives right at the beginning of the season was obviously in the league to again try and finish in the top four,” Tinkler said.

“We would love to try and bring a trophy back to Cape Town City. It's been quite a while now that we haven't held up a trophy. So, that target was right at the beginning of the season. So, we find ourselves now right in the quarterfinals and this match is a very, very important match for us in order to achieve that objective."

Although Tinkler paid the price by rotating the squad against Sundowns, he hopes to reap the rewards in the cup tie.

"Richards Bay can be a difficult team. Truter is a good coach, makes it difficult when you play against them, very aggressive team. A team that likes to play on the counterattack so we are gonna have to be at our best,” he added.

“I made a lot of changes obviously in the game against Sundowns just to show how serious we are taking this competition. We gotta go out there, guns blazing and we need to try and redeem ourselves after the loss against Sundowns."
