United fell to a 1-0 defeat at Swallows and a second in their last three matches, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the DStv Premiership table, with only three games remaining.
With just 25 points from 27 games, they're well and truly in the dogfight as they allowed Swallows to escape and create room between themselves and the bottom three.
"I think when things are not going for us the way they are – you concede a goal by losing the ball against the run of play and you're pushing numbers forward," bemoaned Davids.
"It's been happening like that for us where it's not falling for us, where we're trying everything and not getting the goals, that's what it is. And then you make one mistake and you concede – that's exactly what the game was about."
The Team of Choice, who haven't dropped to the lower league in 15 seasons, now face a must-win battle against 14th-placed Marumo Gallants, who are undefeated in their last seven league outings, at Harry Gwala Stadium next Wednesday.
"Now, of course, we've made it difficult for ourselves in relation to the [log]. It becomes now a three-horse race with Marumo Gallants, who we play next, and only three points will keep it a three-horse race, and that's what we've got to do," Davids added.
"In situations like this, when things are not falling for you, you have to continue. We have to persevere, keep going and we can't, in a game like the last game, create so many chances, be on the front foot, and not win the game."
