Fadlu Davids looks to Marumo Gallants fixture for relegation survival

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids is hoping a win on Wednesday when they host Marumo Gallants can get them out of trouble.

The Team of Choice are currently bottom of the DStv Premiership table and the fixture against Gallants, two places above Maritzburg by three points, is one of three decisive matches remaining to help them avoid the drop.

It didn’t help that they were beaten 1-0 by Swallows on Thursday night.

"Disappointing when I walk into the change room with the players, it's now about uplifting them because we need a positive mindset going to the Marumo game. We can't take this disappointment now and go into the next game. We've got to start with a fresh approach, the right mindset to be able to be positive and go for three points because we know that three points take us on similar points as Marumo," the coach explained.

Asked where it went wrong for Maritzburg, the coach says he prefers to only dissect the real issues at the end of the season.

"I think that's a bigger question, I don't think it's the right time to be able to go into the history of why Maritzburg has been fighting relegation for the last seasons. Let us focus on the next match and focus on what we can do. Then at the end of the season, we will dissect what went wrong from the beginning of the season to now," Davids added.

After Gallants comes another home game against in-form Stellenbosch and then a trip to Mamelodi Sundowns, who will officially be crowned champions on 20 May.

Davids has his work cut out.

"We have to analyse the game, go into it then really figure out how we can inspire them to be able to put on a performance again because we know only a good performance can get us the results against Marumo. We are at home; we need our supporters behind us because we are not down and out. We are going to fight in the next game, we are going to go for three points and be positive. We know in our next two home matches if we collect the six points, we stand a big chance to be able to make it."
