Speaking to the media after their final league game of the season, as Maritzburg was held to a one-all draw by Mamelodi Sundowns earlier this week, Davids revealed that he will be off to Europe on Saturday as he starts with the first block of courses for the Pro License.
"It's not so easy, I retired in January 2012, and immediately I did the CAF B License. I was looking to do the CAF A License as well but it got cancelled a few times, you pay your deposit, they give you back and then I decided to go the UEFA route. It took me, you can count when I did the B license in 2012 until now, once I got the UEFA B which takes two years, you have to wait a year before you can do your UEFA A," he said.
Davids and United are still in the relegation battle, with a possibility of straight relegation or going to the playoffs, depending on the results this weekend.
Currently armed with the UEFA A license, the Pro license is the most recognized in the world and Davids says this has been a long journey as he started this process more than a decade ago. The former striker says it doesn’t come cheap.
"It's a difficult path, you can see from 2012 up until now to finally get into the programme. It's a long journey but as a coach you have to take the steps to get to the highest level. It was a huge discussion with the chairman of TS Galaxy and he's right but we have to assist the coaches to be able to take these steps. It's not cheap as well."
