Fort Hare University needed a shakeup to stabilize things in the elite women’s league

Sports Officer of the University of Fort Hare, Sibabalo Feni, tells SABC Sport that they had to go back to the drawing board to be able to withstand the high levels of the Hollywoodbets Super League.

After promotion from the Sasol League, where they were crowned national champions, they won their first match in the elite division.

But then they lost the next four fixtures before holding the experienced Royal AM to a draw, followed by a famous 1-0 win over the star-studded TS Galaxy Queens.

Sensing danger, the newcomers went on a scouting mission to beef up their team, acquiring experienced players.

"We started on a bad note, our first five games, we only won one and then we went back to the drawing board and checked where we lacked and then we invited Amanda Sister and Chantel, experienced players,” Feni said.

“Then I think we lacked on the centre backs first and now we've sorted that out and now we can play. So, we've fixed our problems. We needed that experience when it comes to the Hollywoodbets Super League.

“Firstly, we had November beginning of the season and then we invited Chantel and Amanda Sister which brought a lot of experience to the team and then now the spirit is high and now we can compete."

Feni has admitted that the levels between the Sasol League and the Hollywoodbets Super League are worlds apart, hence they needed to change their playing personnel. Fort Hare was promoted this season alongside Lindelani Ladies who are struggling and second from bottom.

"To be honest, there's nothing to compare between the Sasol League and Hollywoodbets. I think Hollywood is more difficult than Sasol. As you can see, we've changed the whole of the squad that we have. It's only two or three players that are present in this game that we used on Sasol, now we went for better quality, better experience."
