Usuthu have been blowing hot and cold in the DStv Premiership but enjoyed a decent run in the domestic tournaments – reaching the semifinals of the Carling Black Label and are now through to the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.
Mphahlele has pleaded for patience.
"I think one thing that is really derailing us is the consistency at AmaZulu and look it's not easy, Pablo just came in, it's his first season and for me, he's done so much to get us out of the position that we were psychologically," Mphahlele said.
The Spanish mentor took over at the start of the season following an exhaustive search for a head coach and was expected to hit the ground running.
With AmaZulu in 11th place on the log table and 10 more games to go, Mphahlele is confident next season will be a different story.
"We've got a way now of playing, we've got a structure. It takes time, football takes time, it's not just a toss of coin and then things are good. I hope they give him a little bit of time to work on the team and support him," he added.
Usuthu face TS Galaxy next weekend in the league on the back of the FIFA break and their supporters will want to see them pick up points.
It’s only a matter of time before they turn the corner, the former Mamelodi Sundowns captain adds.
"Eventually the results will come, you're very right, we haven't been consistent, we've struggled to win games but it's something that we're positive will change in the future."
