Harry Maguire's Man Utd future in the balance as contract talks progress

Harry Maguire's future at Manchester United is uncertain as his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

With the possibility of leaving the club in January as a free agent, Maguire is reportedly in positive discussions with United over a contract extension.

The club holds the option to activate a 12-month extension next summer, but it remains to be seen whether this will happen.

Maguire, who has been keen to leave United in recent summers, came close to a move to West Ham in 2023, but negotiations fell through over a settlement.

However, the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim has seemingly revitalised the England defender's career.

Maguire delivered an outstanding performance in United's 2-1 victory against Manchester City, and Amorim has indicated that the 31-year-old is firmly in his plans moving forward.

"Listen, I haven't really thought about it. I've still got this year to go, with an option in their hands," said Maguire.

"But, yeah, talks are ongoing and all the signs are positive at the moment. The chat that I'm having is really positive."

Despite his previous transfer attempts, Maguire has expressed optimism about his future under Amorim.

He described the ongoing contract talks as positive and is hopeful of securing a place in the club's long-term future.
