Jerry Tshabalala - It will be tough to break Richmond United at their backyard

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies coach Jerry Tshabalala says it will be tough to break Richmond United at their home ground.

The two sides will contest at the Merino Park in Northern Cape on Saturday.

Sundowns will go into this encounter at the back of their 7 - 0 home win against struggling Lindelani ladies, who find themselves 2nd from the bottom of the log with 4 points.

Tshabalala says it will be a different ball game when they face Richmond United this weekend considering their decent record at home from last season.

"Look Richmond United are very tough side, you can't break Richmond at home, you've got to come up with a very special plan to be able to break them. When you look at their record, they've been doing great at home," Tshabalala said.

"I remember last season when we were in the Champions League, it was a game they played against UWC which UWC was on top and they managed to beat UWC 1-0 at home. You saw their record over the weekend, they played a draw against a very strong side in JVW. So, it's gonna be a bit of a tough challenge for us against Richmond United."

The 44-year-old mentor spoke highly of their defensive line, with Sundowns ladies tied with TUT Matsantsa Ladies as two teams in the current campaign of the Hollywoodbets Super League - who have conceded the least number of goals so far.

"Look at our defensive record for the past four/five years we have never conceded anything more than 15 goals. So, when we start the season we always set ourselves a target, we always wanna break our own records in terms of goals scored, in terms of goals conceded, in terms of clean sheets,” the coach explained.

“So, basically I think that's the motivation, it's really what motivates us because I speak to defense and said 'Look, last season you conceded about 13 goals, so we can't concede more than 13 goals this season'. I like the response of the players, the girls responded really well to that and I think it's been working wonders for us."

A total of 175 goals have been scored this season in the Hollywoodbets Super League, with Copperbelt’s Thandi Rameri, TS Galaxy’s Busisiwe Ndimeni and Sundown's Miche Minnies as top goal-scorers.
