The Bedfordview outfit are preparing for their penultimate match of the season in Cape Town on Sunday.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Stevens says they will have to be in an attacking mode to claim back-to-back wins against a stubborn UWC away from home.
"This weekend we are hoping to go there and give a good account of ourselves, enjoy the game, allowing them a lot more freedom because we can't move in the log. So, I'm encouraging a little bit more freedom, a little bit more of a relaxed attitude and hopefully, that will help us get a result,” Stevens said.
“I'd love a turnover in this game, a win away from home, having beaten them at home. So, it will be a milestone for the club to be able to beat the runners up, consistent runners up that is, twice, home and away.
“So, that will be our goal but it's gonna be tough and UWC have improved. Their recent successes, their players getting a lot of exposure, good players. I'm ambitious but I'm also optimistic but also reserved at the same time but I think it's gonna be positive."
The Johannesburg outfit will have to win both of their remaining matches against UWC and University of Pretoria to secure fifth place, and Stevens has blamed a lack of goal scoring for the team’s inconsistency this season.
"Poor decision making, poor technical errors even from our seasoned players cost us too many points in the form of draws not defeats but draws because we had a very good run, been undefeated,” the coach explained.
“So, it's all about getting maximum points and we didn't get maximum points due to these errors. Having created so many chances during these games as well, I've done my reviews, the stats are there, 70% possession, 15 chances to one and yet we draw 1-1 or 0-0 and that's just not acceptable. So, it's about scoring goals and we didn't do that well enough."
