Kholosa Biyana says winning the league before playing CAF Women’s Champions League was crucial

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies midfielder Kholosa Biyana believes winning the 2024 Hollywoodbets Super League trophy before competing in the CAF Women’s Champions League will ease the pressure on them.

The Brazilians clinched a record fifth title last weekend with a 5-0 victory over neighbours TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies.

Sundowns Ladies begin the defence of their continental club title on Sunday afternoon in Morocco against FC Masar at 4pm.

Biyana says it was important to complete the domestic assignment so they can focus wholly on the next mission.

"It is very important for us, I think it eases the pressure. We know that we are done at home and automatically we have qualified for the next COSAFA coming up next year. So, after the tournament we don't have the pressure to come back and try and win the league again and I think when we come back we'll be very tired,” Biyana said.

“So, we'll only have one game to play which is against UWC who also have to compete in the same tournament. I think I'm happy that we've wrapped up the league but yeah the league is not done yet but we'll see how it goes when we come back and we'll focus on that when we are done playing the tournament."

Sundowns Ladies will be facing three teams they have never met before and Biyana believes they will be strongly tested.

In only her second CAF Women’s Champions League tournament with her team, she says her mission is to help them get to the top.

"More than anything to help the team try and defend the title. I'm so excited, it's my second one, I think third one for the team and it will be nice to be the first team to be able to defend the cup and I'm hoping that we are going to do well as a team and defend the cup,” she added.

“It's always difficult to play opponents that you haven't seen play before. I think it's gonna be difficult for the coaches to try and get videos for those teams because we haven't seen them. It's gonna be a tough test for us but I think more than anything, we always focus on ourselves and try and get a good result for our team."
