Marumo Gallants put in the hard yards in cup run says Abdeslam Ouaddou

Marumo Gallants coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes his charges were deserving winners in a Nedbank Cup tie against Durban City that was decided on penalties at the Chatsworth Stadium.

The two sides battled in the heat as they could not find a goal that could have sent either one of them to the semifinals of the competition.

But in the end the visitors won 4-1 in a tense penalty-shoot to progress and set up a fixture away to Orlando Pirates.

Ouaddou says they put in the hard yards.

"They did a great job, not easy when you are playing every three days. I'm very proud of them to be honest, even we finished that game, we won that game with penalties but you know, it's the nature of the cup,” Ouaddou said.

“That team played very well as well, I would like to congratulate the coach for the job that he's doing and I wish them good luck for the next game.

"We deserve to win that game because we were dominant. We created more chances but we were not that efficient in the last third but at least, we deserve that win."

Gallants now prepare to face Pirates for the third time this season, having recently beaten them 2-0 in the Betway Premiership when Ouaddou first took charge.

The coach says they will not go into the semi-final stage like sheep to slaughter.

"About the draw, what can I tell you is that you know when we arrived in the semifinal, there are only good teams and big teams, so you cannot say that 'I'd like to choose Sundowns or Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs',” the coach added.

“I think it's big teams and we will prepare for that, we will try to recover and we will go with the lots of confidence and lot of ambitions. I think we did it once, why not a second time."
