Mthandazo Moyo praises his team despite defeat to JVW

Richmond United assistant coach Mthandazo Moyo believes they were the better side despite the defeat to JVW at the University of Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday.

The Northern Cape outfit went 2-1 down in a hard-fought contest against coach Mitchell Stevens’s charges away from home.

Moyo says his team gave it their all but luck was not on their side.

“Look we have lost the game, but I believe we played better, we were a much better side. We were supposed to get maximum points from this game. It is one of those things where luck was not on our side. At the end of the day we lost, you know that football is made up of three results, a win, a draw or loss and today we lost. We are going back to the drawing board to rectify our mistakes,’’ said Moyo.

Richmond United have won three out of their five recent outings - a testament to the resilience of this youthful side. Moyo says despite dropping points in two back-to-back matches, the team remains optimistic for a top-four finish.

“We want to finish top four, that’s the team’s ambition this season. Just looking at where the team is even now, we just need to pull up our socks and start winning games. It will take collective effort and teamwork to get there,’’ added Moyo

Next stop for Richmond United is against the Hollywoodbets Super League defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, a side that has not lost a match in their last five outings. However, Moyo says they are not scared to face Sundowns and believes his charge always play well against the so called big teams in the Super League.

“Like I said, we are not scared of Sundowns. We are not scared to play the big teams, we always play better when we play big teams. From now we have to start picking up points for us to finish top four - it will be a must for us to pick up points. We have lost a lot of points from the previous games, it is high time we pick up points,’’ concluded Moyo.
