Musa Bilankulu downplays Mabhuti Khenyeza’s Golden Arrows resignation

Golden Arrows co-coach Musa Bilankulu has made light of the absence of his colleague Mabhuti Khenyeza, who downed tools last week.

Although the club has only indicated Khenyeza absconded from work in the build-up to the KwaZulu-Natal derby against Richards Bay at the weekend, it’s understood the coach has resigned.

Bilankulu, who was handed the post-match media responsibilities, said it was business as usual in camp.

"Look, it was not that difficult because the three of us have been working [together], so the absence of Coach Mabhuti, now we had to take over from what we've been doing," said Bilankulu.

"We had programmes, so now it's not that difficult, unlike if it was him alone who was planning the sessions and doing everything, but because we were all giving ideas, planning training sessions together, even before time.

"So I think that thing happened, but we saw now we're at a stage where we have to be professional and focus on the game."

The former defender said the 1-0 defeat to their crosstown rivals had little to do with Khenyeza breaking away from the coaching trio, which also includes Kagisho Dikgacoi.

"I don't want to say the impact [of Khenyeza's absence] lead to the result because, we could see even in the team's preparations, everyone was working very hard and looking good," he added.

"So I cannot falter the players or anyone in the technical team, we tried our best and this was our best, if we can say that, but I still believe we could have won the game, it was so unfortunate that we couldn't even convert the chances we created in the second half."
