The Motsepe Foundation side were the rank underdogs heading into the clash but showed they were not to be underestimated in the opening salvos. Menzi Mdwandwe had the opening chance of the match, but his header narrowly missed the target.
The match became a dogfight and while tension was high, chances were few.
But the match changed in the beginning of the second stanza as TS Galaxy broke the deadlock. Damir Sovsic provided the assist for Dzenan Zajmovic who beat Durdan City gloveman Ayanda Mtshali from close range in the 49th minute. The Rockets then had multiple chances to double their advantage, but were not clinical enough.
With 11 minutes to go, Durban City levelled matters thanks to a counter attack and an excellent strike from Joslin Kamatuka.
The final whistle only signalled a brief break before extra time began for the knockout clash. TS Galaxy pressured, but it would be the Team of Choice that broke hearts.
Falakhe Tshanini provided a lofty cross for Senzo Ndlovu to latch on to and the striker obliged, heading the ball home in the 107th minute. The Durbanites held on for a memorable victory with Mtshali keeping out a last-ditch effort from Samkelo Kabini.
