Durban City player tragically dies after collapsing during a league match

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Durban City FC have confirmed the passing of their player Sinamandla “Sgodla” Zondi after he collapsed during their league match against Milford FC at Chatsworth Stadium last night.
It was reported that Zondi was then taken to the hospital, where he passed on.
“It is with sadness we confirm the passing of Sinamandla Zondi, known as 'Sgora', a loved member of the Durban City family. Sinamandla was more than a talented footballer, he was a teammate, a friend, a brother, a son and an inspiration to all who knew him,” the club statement said.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, teammates coaches and everyone affected by this tragic loss.”
Durban City were previously called Maritzburg United but relocated to Durban before the 2024/25 season started.
City were knocked out of the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup by Marumo Gallants in March and they currently sit on top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship log with 46 points.
