The Black Stars have appeared at every World Cup since 2006, barring the 2018 edition of the tournament, with their best showing a quarter-final finish in South Africa in 2010.
They recently qualified for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and now switch their attentions to a must-win encounter with Madagascar, who are ranked number 22 in the FIFA rankings for African teams.
Ghana are placed 11th on that list but are the overwhelming favourites heading into the tie.
Hughton said on Ghanasoccernet: "The pressure that I am under as head coach and I am always under is to win football matches.
"We want to be able to win football matches and score lots of goals and concede none. This is heaven, but we can't always have that.
"What is important is to make sure that we win."
The Black Stars take on Madagascar at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday.
