Phil Foden expects England to improve against Slovenia

England sit top of Group C on four points after edging past Serbia and then drawing 1-1 with Denmark last time out.

However, the performances in both games, especially against Denmark, has led to widespread criticism from fans, pundits and former players.

Foden's form has also been a hot topic of debate as Gareth Southgate has struggled to get the best out of the wealth of attacking options at his disposal.

Victory over Slovenia in Cologne will confirm England as group winners, while a draw would be enough to progress into the last 16 from top spot if Denmark do not beat Serbia.

"I feel like the intensity has gone up a little bit," Foden said.

"We've had a good start, we're on four points, but we expect more from ourselves. I look around and the characters we have, we always expect more from ourselves. Training has gone up going into this game.

"It is such a great group here, everyone sticks together. Now I feel we're finding our feet, we're going into the third game full of confidence and trying to finish top of the group."

Foden has started out on the left of England's front line in both games so far with Southgate's array of forwards all attempting to harmonise.

With the likes of all-time record England goalscorer Harry Kane, Real Madrid's Champions League winner Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka playing alongside him, Foden believes the squad is the best he has been a part of.

"The standard is so high," he told Lions' Den.

"For me, it's probably the most technical England team I've ever seen. Training is such a high level, it's where you want to be, training with the best players week in, week out. I'm just happy to be here and to try to help the team as best as possible."

Foden, who has a new chant among England fans to the tune of Bruce Springsteen's 'Dancing in the Dark', also revealed he has had plenty to take his mind off football when some rest and relaxation is required.

"To have a song about yourself is something you've always dreamed of. To hear the England fans singing it, it means a lot," he said of the rousing rendition heard in both games so far in Germany.

"I've had a little bit of time to go fishing, so it's been nice. I've done a lot of things on this camp. I've been playing a bit of darts, basketball, padel.

"I'm new to that but it's a great game. I've been trying to keep my mind occupied, I think it's important."
