Cape Town City 3-1 Cape Town Spurs
The game kicked off with a bang as Ashley Cupido found the back of the net for Spurs within the first three minutes.
Cupido's clinical strike was set up beautifully by Chumani Butsaka.
Despite City's early possession advantage, they struggled to create scoring opportunities. Eric Tinkler, the City manager, sensed the urgency and made a change just after the half-hour mark, replacing Juan Camilo Zapata with Thabiso Kutumela. This tactical switch would prove pivotal.
As the first half neared its end, City's relentless pressure paid off. After a handball in the box by Dortley, the referee awarded a penalty, which Darwin Gonzalez confidently converted with a powerful shot into the bottom corner, levelling the score.
In the 70th minute, Khanyisa Mayo put the Citizens in the lead with a first-time finish at the near post, courtesy of a pinpoint cross from Gonzalez, 19 minutes from time.
As Spurs pushed forward in search of an equalizer, they left gaps in their defence. Mayo had a golden opportunity to extend City's lead as he rounded goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom, but Morne Nel came to the rescue, clearing Mayo's shot off the line.
City sealed the deal with just five minutes remaining. Mayo latched onto a well-placed cross and, in a collision with Siyanda Msani, both players bundled the ball over the line.
Momentum carried them into the goal, securing the third goal for the Citizens and the victory.
Polokwane City 1-0 Royal AM
Ndumiso Mabena scored the only goal of the game as Polokwane City notched up their third win of the season after a 1-0 win against Royal AM.
Mabena netted in first-half stoppage-time as Rise and Shine moved into the top-eight of the league standings.
Royal AM's winless run now stretches to three matches with John Maduka's team in 12th place on the table with eight points after eight matches.
