Real Betis midfielder Isco faces lengthy layoff after surgery

Real Betis have confirmed that midfielder Isco Alarcon will require another surgery after complications with the recovery of his fibula fracture, sustained in May.

The club revealed that the healing process has not progressed as expected, with a lack of consolidation and solid bone formation around the fracture site.

Betis' medical staff, led by Dr Jose Manuel Alvarez, explained that Isco will undergo the procedure on Friday in Madrid at the Olympia Medical-Surgical Centre.

The operation will be performed by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr Manuel Leyes, known for his extensive experience treating elite athletes. He will be supported by doctors Muela and Montilla during the surgery.

According to Dr Alvarez, Isco will need six to eight weeks without any physical impact to allow the fracture to heal properly.

After this period, he will begin a rehabilitation programme, though no specific timeline for his return has been provided.

The primary goal is to ensure the midfielder returns in top condition, with the expectation that he will not play again until 2025.

This extended recovery could be a significant blow for Betis, who will have to cope without Isco for the rest of the season.

Fans and teammates alike will be hoping for a smooth recovery and a strong return next year.
