Report: Man Utd eye Atalanta's Ederson as key transfer target

Manchester United have reportedly identified Atalanta's 25-year-old midfielder Ederson as a key target for the upcoming January transfer window.

The Portuguese international has impressed scouts at Old Trafford, with United "seriously considering" a move for the talented player.

Ederson, whose contract with Atalanta runs until June 2027, has caught the attention of manager Ruben Amorim, who is keen to strengthen his squad following his recent appointment.

Amorim has already shown his tactical acumen, winning four of his first eight matches, including a notable victory in the Manchester derby.

However, the new head coach is aware that reinforcements are necessary to push for success this season.

"I have to have a strong position on that because I am the coach. I know how to play, so I think it's all together but the final word should be the manager. Not just because it's your right but your responsibility," Amorim said when asked about transfer moves.

"Because, in the end, the result is to me, so I think it's all together to improve the process of recruitment.

"I have a great responsibility when we choose players because this is something that should be done this way. I'm the manager, the head coach, so I have to choose the players."

Atalanta have reportedly set an asking price between £42 million to £50 million for Ederson, a fee United are thought to be willing to meet.

Despite this, no official contact has been made with either the player's representatives or the Italian club at this stage.

Ederson himself has expressed curiosity about playing in the Premier League, sharing his ambition in an interview with Spanish publication AS earlier this summer.

His desire to test himself in England could be a driving factor behind United's interest as they look to secure a long-term asset for their midfield.
