Report: Man Utd target Joao Gomes as potential Casemiro substitute

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing Joao Gomes of Wolverhampton Wanderers as a potential long-term replacement for their midfield stalwart, Casemiro.

Gomes, who has been an instrumental figure at Molineux since his arrival from Flamengo in a £15million move last January, has caught the eye of several top clubs with his impressive performances in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old's contributions have not gone unnoticed, earning him a call-up to the Brazil senior squad during the current international break.

If selected, Gomes could make his international debut at Wembley Stadium, facing off against England in what promises to be a significant moment in his burgeoning career.

The Daily Mirror has reported that Manchester United have identified Gomes as a potential target as they look to bolster their midfield options in the upcoming transfer window.

The club are not alone in their interest, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United also expressing keenness in securing the services of the tough-tackling midfielder, affectionately known in Brazil as "The Pitbull".

The potential move for Gomes comes amidst speculation surrounding Casemiro's future at Old Trafford. The 32-year-old Brazilian has seen a decline in his performances this season, leading to suggestions of a possible move to Saudi Arabia.

Casemiro's physical struggles have been evident this season, contrasting with his stellar performances during his debut season at Manchester United, where he made 53 appearances, providing seven assists and scoring seven goals.

Notably, he played a pivotal role in the team's Carabao Cup final victory against Newcastle, netting a crucial header.
