Amorim acknowledged the young winger's improvement, stating that he has "changed in everything" following the disappointment of missing out on the crucial fixture.
Garnacho and Marcus Rashford were both excluded from the derby squad, though United managed to secure a dramatic late comeback victory.
While Garnacho has worked his way back into Amorim's plans, Rashford's continued absence remains a major talking point, dominating headlines in the lead-up to United's Europa League clash against FCSB.
Despite discussions around his own long-term role at the club, Garnacho has responded positively to his setback and remains an important part of Amorim's squad.
Meanwhile, Rashford's struggles continue to raise questions, with his potential departure becoming an increasing possibility.
"He changed right away since that game against City," head coach Amorim said of Garnacho.
"The way he understands things and understands that I just want to help him, I just want to win games.
"He changed in everything: the approach when you talk with him, the way he recovers.
"He understands that sometimes I'm a different coach, that I am demanding in my way and sometimes it's hard with the first impact because it's a different kind of coach.
"He understands that it is never in a bad way, it's always for him, but I am different person.
"I think all the merit (goes to) Garnacho. He is improving and we want to continue to improve with Garnacho."
