SAFA suspends players for Lindelani Ladies and Royal AM brawl

The South African Football Association (SAFA) Disciplinary Committee has found Lindelani Ladies and some of their players guilty following the much-publicised brawl when they faced Royal AM during a Hollywoodbets Super League clash.

The incident took place on 21 April this year at the Prince Magogo Stadium and was broadcast live on television.

In a statement seen by SABC Sport, the decision to fine the Durban outfit stems from the fact that “The Respondents were charged with contravening Rules of the SAFA Competitions Uniform Rules and Regulations in that the Respondents (Lindelani Ladies) committed acts of assault with the intention to cause harm,” according to the ruling.

The SAFA DC has suspended three players – Akhona Mkhize, Nomfundo Xulu and Anele Miya – for two games each with immediate effect, starting this past weekend against Thunderbirds Ladies.

They will also miss the next league clash when they host Richmond United on Saturday, 15 September, but will be available for selection for the away City Lads Ladies fixture the following weekend (Saturday, 21 September).

The club was also fined R10 000, payable within 30 days and ordered to pay the cost of the DC proceedings amounting to R2,500.

Charges against Thobela Nkosi, Asanda Shandu and Omuhle Ngcobo – all from Lindelani Ladies - were dropped, while no one from Royal AM received any punishment.
