Usuthu have made big changes in almost every department of the team, from officials to the technical team and players, after the club went from finishing in the top-four in 2021/22 to not even qualifying for next season's MTN8.
There were rumours of a lack of leadership in the top management, which led to divisions in the club, as well as a rise of discipline issues among the players.
Though Zungu refused to divulge any details, in an exclusive interview with the public broadcaster he indeed hinted that both Mofokeng and Dlamini failed to deal with club matters, prompting decisive action.
"It is official that some members of the team have been released, including the general and team managers," Zungu told SABC Sport.
"No one is bigger than the club, even myself. I will always tell board members, if ever they feel I am falling, to allow my son or someone on the board to take over. I am open to and will gladly do so.
"When I feel the general and team managers are not doing their job properly, I have to make changes. I should never be interfering with the team matters, when I have a general and team manager."
The president further confirmed they will look into bolstering their technical department ahead of the new season as they look to groom better quality youngsters to safeguard the future of the club.
"In terms of the scouting, we were not doing justice to the team and province [KwaZulu-Natal]. Maybe we failed Ayanda Mkhize, so we're now working on having a huge scouting department to do the job properly. Hence, now we will have a sporting director," he added.
With concerns that AmaZulu may struggle to find suitable replacements for those who have departed, Zungu insisted there are many who understand the culture of this club.
"There are many who relate to this club. I will find someone to fulfill those duties," concluded Zungu.
