Following more than a decade abroad, the 32-year-old returned to the Premier Soccer League six months ago and Babina Noko jumped at the opportunity to sign him on a short-term deal with an option.
And 14 games later Mokotjo has more than proved his quality, helping Sekhukhune to a seventh place finish in the DStv Premiership as well as being part of the squad that reached the final of the Nedbank Cup.
Sekhukhune lost 1-0 to Orlando Pirates but secured a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup next season where Mokotjo’s experience will be crucial.
The club has since triggered the clause to keep the former FC Twente and Brentford midfielder for another season until June 2024.
Asked for comment, his agent said it was evidence that Mokotjo was still among the best players in the country.
“Kamo made a massive impact and played a very important role in where Sekhukhune ended up in the league as well as reaching the final of the Nedbank Cup. We all saw it for ourselves,” explained Basia Michaels.
“He is loved and revered, not only by the fans but people within the club. We had a plan in mind – similar to a teaser – it was really about just proving that he has what it takes and it’s paid off because he does form part of Sekhukhune plans going forward.”
