Stellenbosch desperate to keep key squad members at club this time around

Stellenbosch Chief Executive Officer Rob Benadie says the club will try their utmost to keep the core of their squad intact, having seen a number of players being poached by bigger clubs in seasons gone by.

Ever since gaining promotion to the DStv Premiership, Stellies have had quality players leave in almost every transfer window.

Stellies are known for producing young quality players like Bafana Bafana star Jayden Adams, Devin Titus, Antonio Van Wyk and Athenkosi Mcaba, whom they will be desperate to hold on to this time around.

Benadie acknowledged that losing players is inevitable, especially during this time of the year. He also stressed that, despite the challenges, they will make every effort to retain their players.

"If you ask me what a good transfer window would be, we in that silly season now, it would be nobody is leaving our club we will keep our players," Benadie told iDiski Times.

"We as a club will try our best to that but itâ™s impossible its doesnâ™t work like that whether you Man United or Stellenbosch Football Club there will be players coming and going.

"So we try our best to keep our players, keep the squad together, to keep consistency and continuity because thatâ™s important in sport but we also comfortable with the fact that some players will move on and if also we can develop a young player that he can move over to bigger and better things whether is locally or abroad then we happy to do that."

The Winelands outfit enjoyed a fantastic campaign last time out as they clinched the Carling Knockout Cup while qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in the club's history after finishing third in the DStv Premiership.
