SuperSport bounce back from cup loss to inflict second league defeat on Kaizer Chiefs

SuperSport United inflicted a second Betway Premiership defeat on Kaizer Chiefs this season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

It was sweet revenge for Gavin Hunt's charges after Amakhosi romped to a 4-0 win in a Carling Knockout Cup clash last weekend.

The only goal of the game was scored by Tashreeq Morris just before the halftime break after the forward produced a neat finish after a cross from the right.

Chiefs had more possession in the opening stages but could not break down a rock-hard SuperSport defence marshalled well by Thulani Hlatshwayo.

Matsatsantsa were always dangerous on the counter-attack, especially against Chiefs' high line and could have made more of a few promising situations on attack.

The goal eventually would come when Siphesihle Ndlovu drove forward down the right wing and produced a sumptuous cross onto the on-rushing Morris, who produced a fine one-touch finish high into the net.

Amakhosi threw everything into attack in search of the equaliser after the interval but looked rather toothless as SuperSport packed the defence and offered no space.

The best effort from Chiefs came from long-range in the dying stages when Mfundo Vilakazi unleashed a venomous shot but goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa produced a brilliant save.

It is now a second loss in four league matches for Amakhosi while SuperSport picked up their second win of the campaign to move above their opponents on the table.
