SuperSport United look to hijack Chippa United deal with Kaizer Chiefs

SABC Sport has established that SuperSport United are now in talks with Kaizer Chiefs to persuade them to agree a transfer over winger Christian Saile.

The public broadcaster reported earlier this week the Glamour Boys were eager to offload the DR Congo player to free up a foreign spot as they anticipate signing an international striker this month.

Chippa United were the first to show serious interest and ready to offer Saile terms to move to Gqeberha, however that potential deal now hangs in the balance.

Saile, who joined Amakhosi from Zambian side Nchana Rangers two years ago, has struggled for game time and even dropped down the pecking order since the arrival of coach Nasreddine Nabi.

The 25-year-old has only made six appearances for Chiefs this season, with most of them coming off the bench.

It’s understood Chiefs are willing to accept a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of this season, with Saile's contract set to run out in July next year.

Chippa initially looked favourites to land the deal, but SuperSport have now opened their own discussions with Amakhosi, and it’s believed they are now frontrunners.

The Tshwane outfit will also have to find room for a foreign player in their squad, having already reached the full quota of five, as per NSL rules.

SuperSport currently have Eric Mbangossoum (Chad), Abubaker Nasir (Ethiopia]) Samir Nurkovic (Serbia), Terrence Dzvukamanja and Nokutenda Mangezi (both Zimbabwe) on their roster for the 2024/25 season.
