SuperSport United prevail as former players come back to haunt Kaizer Chiefs

SuperSport United thrashed 10-man Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 in their Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, ending the Glamour Boys' three-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Chiefs were undone by their former players, Samir Nurkovic and Christian Saile, who scored the first and second goals for SuperSport, respectively.

Gamphani Lungu and Siphesihle Ndlovu added the third and fourth goals, while Glodly Lilepo scored the only goal for Amakhosi, who also had Gaston Sirino sent off in the second half.

The win was crucial for the Tshwane side as they look to climb up the league table, while the loss dented Amakhosi's hopes of finishing in the top three.

SuperSport are currently in 12th place with 20 points from 18 games, while Chiefs sit in sixth place with 25 points from the same number of matches.

Amakhosi had to chase the game from the third minute when former striker Nurkovic scored from close range, thanks to a cross from Gamphani Lungu.

Lungu could have extended the visitors' lead, but his attempt from inside the box was blocked by defender Rushwin Dortley just before crossing the line, keeping Chiefs in the game.

In the 30th minute, the hosts found an equalizer when Glodly Lilepo scored a well-placed header to make it 1-1. However, SuperSport regained the lead just moments later, with Nurkovic turning provider for another ex-Chiefs forward, Saile, who scored with a low shot to make it 2-1.

SuperSport entered the break in control, as Chiefs struggled to create clear-cut opportunities. Despite their efforts, Chiefs found it difficult to find the back of the net.

Tashreeq Morris came close in the 60th minute, but his shot was easily saved by SuperSport goalkeeper Ricardo Goss.

In the 63rd minute, SuperSport extended their lead after a failed clearance by Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma fell into the path of Lungu, who made no mistake from close range.

The situation worsened for Chiefs when Gaston Sirino was sent off in the 69th minute after receiving his second yellow card.

Siphesihle Ndlovu sealed the win for SuperSport with a fourth goal, as the visitors claimed all three points in style.
