Tashreeq Morris speaks on Sekhukhune United ordeal

Newly signed SuperSport United striker Tashreeq Morris has shed some light on why he was sidelined for six months at his old club.

The 30-year-old finally left Sekhukhune United at the end of the previous season having last played for the club in December.

Morris spoke to SABC Sport about his ordeal with Babina Noko.

"To be honest with you I wouldn't want to go into too much detail as to what had occurred between me and the club but the first season, when I arrived at the club I think it looked promising, my first few games at the club," Morris said.

"The first season as a whole wasn't too bad but the second season came and then there started to become off-the-field issues and certain things that I wouldn't want to go into too much detail because at the end of the day, they are still a club, there are still players that are playing there.

“Those guys that were there and who was there at the time that I was there, they know exactly what was done to me, what was happening to me at the club but I wouldn't go into too much detail as to what had occurred.

“It had nothing to do with football, it had nothing to do with my ability as to can I perform, can I play, nothing about that. It was something that was off the field whereby I protected my integrity and my beliefs and that caused me to end up not playing for the club and having to train with their DDC team for nearly six months."

With the transfer deadline long gone, Morris says he was surprised to get the call from SuperSport that coach Gavin Hunt wanted to assess the player.

"Obviously, I think I'm grateful to the coach, to the technical team, to the club for bringing me on board and showing that immediate belief in me by giving me a start against Chiefs which is not just any game you'll play within the PSL,” he added.

“No disrespect to any other team but yeah, it just shows the belief that they have in me. My wife, my two kids and I, we were on our way to Cape Town, I received a call to say that we had to be at SuperSport on Wednesday, I think it was Friday or Saturday.

“I was told I have to be there on Wednesday, the club wants to have a look at me, the coach wants to see where I'm at. The first few days were intense, I tell you, that was intense but yeah obviously, I trained for like, I'm not sure for how long.

“I think two weeks or just over a week and that is when they said, they are interested in bringing me on board and they'll like to sign me on."
