This was their first ever continental club title, atoning for the 2022 group stages exit. TP Mazembe were the first team from central Africa to reach the final.
The visitors took the lead within the first 10 minutes of the game after Marlene Kasaf found the back of the net from the spot kick and they never relinquished the advantage despite incessant attacks from the home team.
With the victory, TP Mazembe became the third team to lift the trophy of the four-old tournament.
South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies won it twice in 2021 and 2023, with AS FAR claiming the title in between (2022).
Returning for the second time since 2022, the DR Congo side was businesslike in their approach, defeating debutants University of the Western Cape (UWC) 2-0 in the opening match, stumbled to a 3-1 loss against AS FAR, but bounced back to wallop other debutants, Senegal’s Aigles de la Medina 4-0.
They had to dig deep in the semi-final, and eventually triumphed over Nigeria’s tough Edo Queens, winning 3-1 in extra time to set up a cup final clash against the hosts.
While Mazembe claimed the title, AS FAR and FC Masar shared the individual awards.
Sanaa Mssoudy (AS FAR) was named the Best Player of the Tournament while Doha El Madani (AS FAR) scored six goals to walk away with the Top Goal Scorer award.
FC Masar took the Golden Gloves accolade though Mabiba El Taher and won the Fair Play award.
Over and above the trophy, TP Mazembe were USD 600 000 (close to R11m) richer, while for finishing second, AS FAR pocketed USD 400 000 (about R7.3m).
FC Masar claimed bronze and stunned many when they defeated Edo Queens 4-3 on penalties after both sides were deadlocked at 0-0 in regulation time on Friday night (22 November) in El Jadida.
