Truter thanks receptive players for spoiling Amakhosi party

This was Sekhukhune’s first-ever win against Amakhosi since the club bought the status of Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila in 2021. Vusi Mncube’s 49th minute goal after capitalizing on  Zitha Kwinika’s blunder, proved to be the only goal in this game. This was Mncube’s second goal this season, having scored the other one during the 2-0 loss over another Soweto giant Orlando Pirates in October 2022. 

Truter, who only joined Sekhukhune in the middle of the FIFA World Cup break in November,  replacing Kaitano Tembo who was released following a string of poor results, is full of compliments for his players. 

“Once we played it and we got our playing structure right, they struggled to contain us. We played with so much width, we were between the lines and I think in the second half, we pressed them a bit better. 

“And it's also the result of the understanding from the boys and them being coachable as well. I have to give credit to the boys for being humble and receptive to new ideas. This is not the same team you have seen before the break, this current team is full of confidence and there’s a good spirit and atmosphere within the team,” Truter on what makes this team tick. 

The win has now taken Babina Noko to the 10th spot on the log with 18 points at the halfway mark (15 matches). Truter still had time to wish Amakhosi a happy birthday, despite having spoilt their party. 

“As much as we spoiled the party, I have to say happy birthday Kaizer Chiefs, it’s. a club with a rich history in South African football. They’ve been around for a very wrong long time and a majority of South Africans have supported them growing up. Happy Birthday to you, sorry for spoiling the party but the celebrations continue,” concluded Truter. 

Sekhukhune have collected seven points from a possible nine since Truter took over and they recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
