This is how Du Preez shared the story during the Carling Cup pre-match press conference at Orlando stadium yesterday, ahead of tomorrow’s exhibition match between the Carling Cup All Stars XI and Magesi FC at the same match venue.
The two cousins made their name in professional football at Stellenbosch FC, and now Du Preez says they are both happy to be playing for their childhood clubs.
"Deano is my cousin, I think we grew up together, and played together so we know each other, we know what we wanted as kids. I've always wanted to play for Chiefs, he always wanted to play for Pirates, both of our dreams came true,” du Preez said.
“So, nowadays we just encourage each other, we are there for each other, encourage each other, push each other. There's nothing else around me and Deano, we are just there for each other at the moment."
By his standards, Du Preez has not had a decent start this season, having scored only three goals from 10 matches in all competitions.
He’s hoping to use this exhibition game to regain his scoring touch and form.
"Consistency and working on it daily. So, I think this is the opportunity where I can bounce back like I said, get the goals this weekend and get a lot of confidence, confidence you can go to the club with and just be free. Definitely working on getting my confidence back and all that."
