Usuthu exit imminent, but agent coy on striker Gabadinho Mhango’s future

According to SABC Sport sources, striker Gabadinho Mhango will leave AmaZulu in the coming weeks, but his agent is coy on the Malawian international’s destination in the Premier Soccer League.

Mhango joined Usuthu last season from Orlando Pirates and his transfer was described as a marquee signing for the Durban-based outfit.

However, after 22 appearances and six goals Mhango’s exit is imminent, with long-time representative Mike Makaab confirming to the public broadcaster he is actively looking for a new home for the forward.

Mhango has since stopped training with AmaZulu as a clear sign he is not in coach Pablo Franco Martin’s plan for the 2023/24 campaign.

He has been omitted from the two pre-season tournaments the club has featured in to prepare for the domestic league kick-off this weekend.

“We are in discussions with AmaZulu at present and there are a number of clubs that have shown interest, but we have to ensure the deal is fair to all parties,” Makaab elaborated when asked about the player’s future.

Naturally, the former Bidvest Wits, Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows attacker has been the subject of speculation.

Mhango has been linked with a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs, however, Amakhosi football manager Bobby Motaung has ruled out signing a player once on the books of bitter rivals Pirates in recent years, although he confirmed the Glamour Boys are searching for a striker before the window closes at the end of the month.
