Vincent Enyeama open to Super Eagles return

Vincent Enyeama open to Super Eagles return

Vincent Enyeama is eager to make a return to the Nigeria team as part of the coaching team, if they will have him.

The 41-year-old former Super Eagles stopper retired from national duty in controversial fashion back in 2015 following a disagreement with then head coach Sunday Oliseh.

Enyeama played 101 times for his country and in 2023 won the title of the Greatest African Goalkeeper of all Time by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics.

The Nigeria Football Federation only just declared vacancies for coaching positions for both the Super Eagles and the Golden Eaglets after the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, who guided the Super Eagles to a commendable second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d'Ivoire.

Speaking to Lagos Talks, Enyeama explained his willingness to be a part of the national set-up, despite not holding the necessary coaching badges.

He said: "Becoming a goalkeeper coach, first of all, I'm not yet certified. If they want me to be like Zidane, who was not yet certified, but Real Madrid had faith in him, it can happen."

Enyeama added: "I can never say no to my country. I have always said that. I can never say no to Nigeria. I will bring my experience over the years in Europe, and we will do it. But they have to call me first."
