Pereira and Gomes share a strong connection, having previously worked together at Brazilian side Flamengo.
The 23-year-old, born in Rio de Janeiro, has had football at the heart of his life since childhood, and his passion for the game has been evident since joining Wolves in January 2023.
Since Pereira took charge at Molineux, Gomes has become a key figure in the starting XI, impressing with his work rate and determination. The manager has highlighted his midfielder's dedication.
"Joao is the kind of player that is very happy playing football and you feel this every day," said Pereira.
"He comes happy to the training, he goes inside happy as a boy playing in school with friends.
"He has this spirit and he has true team spirit because he likes to help, he likes to be there, to run, to give everything."
Wolves travel to Bournemouth for their next Premier League encounter on Saturday.
