Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera optimistic about injury recovery

Wolverhampton Wanderers' defender Yerson Mosquera, 23, is steadily recovering from a major knee injury sustained in September 2024 during a match at Villa Park.

The Colombian centre-back suffered damage to both his medial collateral ligament (MCL) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a setback that ruled him out for several months.

Mosquera, who signed a five-year deal with Wolves in the summer of 2021, spent the early part of 2024 on loan at La Liga side Villarreal.

During his time with the Yellow Submarine, he made 16 appearances and scored 2 goals, impressing despite the club's challenges.

However, Mosquera's return to Wolverhampton was marred by another injury in a match against Villa just eight minutes before the final whistle.

Since then, the 23-year-old has spoken openly about his recovery journey and is determined to return to action as soon as possible.

Wolves' new manager, Gary O'Neil, will be hoping for Mosquera's return soon, with the team set to face Villa in the upcoming fixture.

The match promises to be a significant one for both clubs, and Mosquera will be eagerly watching from the sidelines as he continues his rehabilitation.

"My recovery is going really well," he said. "I will be pushing it further as soon as possible. I had an appointment recently, and the doctor said good things, which is really important because I can see my progress.

"At the moment, I'm in the gym and I will be ready to do a lot of things. I don't know when I'll be back on the pitch, but I know it's closer, and everyone's happy to see me progress.

"The most important thing now is how I feel, I need to stay positive about everything. I feel strong, I feel positive. I have a good plan to improve my body.

"The staff are here for everything. They showed me how I've progressed, and they give me help, which is really good. I need to stay focused. I need to stay calm, because it's a big injury and I need to recover well. My mentality is positive, always."
