World Cup qualifiers: Tunisia edge Liberia to strengthen grip on Group H

Tunisia took a significant step towards 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification with a narrow 1-0 victory over Liberia in Paynesville on Wednesday.

Hazem Mastouri's early strike proved decisive as Tunisia extended their lead at the top of Group H.

Mastouri netted in the 4th minute after latching onto an Ali Abdi assist, setting the tone for a dominant Tunisian display.

The visitors had several chances to extend their lead, with Naim Sliti rattling the crossbar. Liberia, however, refused to back down, with Bryan Farkarlun testing Tunisia's defence.

Aymen Dahmen produced a heroic save in the second half, denying Farkarlun's close-range effort with his face.

The match's most controversial moment came in the 55th minute when Liberia appealed for a penalty, but referee Clement Franklin Kpan waved away the protests.

Montasser Talbi played a crucial role in Tunisia's defensive resilience, making a last-minute block and being involved in the disputed penalty incident.

With this victory, Tunisia sit five points clear of Namibia, while Liberia remain third, six points off the pace.

Eswatini earn historic point as Cameroon struggles in World Cup qualifier

Eswatini secured their first-ever point in the FIFA World Cup qualifying rounds with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Cameroon in Mbombela.

The result marks a significant milestone for Eswatini, who were forced to play in South Africa due to their stadiums failing to meet international standards.

Cameroon, the African nation with the most World Cup appearances, arrived in Mbombela under less-than-ideal circumstances.

Poor travel arrangements saw their chartered flight depart late, and when they finally reached South Africa, they were unable to land in Mbombela as the airport was closed for the night.

The team was diverted to Johannesburg, where they endured a three-hour wait before embarking on a gruelling five-hour bus journey.

The chaotic travel schedule appeared to take its toll, as Cameroon delivered a lacklustre performance despite boasting Premier League stars Andre Onana and Bryan Mbeumo.

The result leaves Cameroon atop Group D with nine points, but their lead is slim, with Libya and Cape Verde just two points behind.

Madagascar thrash Central African Republic as Martins makes winning start

Corentin Martins' tenure as Madagascar's head coach began in emphatic fashion as his side secured a 4-1 victory over the Central African Republic in Casablanca.

Despite falling behind early to a ninth-minute goal from Central African Republic defender Hugo Gambor, Madagascar responded with a dominant display.

Rayan Raveloson starred with a brace, while his teammates added two more to complete an impressive performance.

With this result, Madagascar now lead Group I with 10 points, keeping them in pole position in the qualification race.

They hold a narrow advantage over Comoros, who sit just one point behind, level with Ghana.
