Kagiso Rabada shows his class as MI Cape Town put on a show in front of home faithful

MI Cape Town made it two wins from three in this season's SA20 campaign after a convincing 33-run victory against cross-town rivals Paarl Royals at Newlands on Monday.

Reeza Hendricks struck 59 from 37 balls as the home team posted a total of 172-7 before Kagiso Rabada showed his class with the ball with two maiden wicket overs as the Royals could only reach 139-9.

Hendricks, who was bought for R4.3 million in the auction, finally repaid the faith shown in him by the franchise with a knock that included eight fours and one six.

The right-handed batter received good support from Rassie van der Dussen (43 from 33 balls) as the Proteas duo added 79 for the second wicket after the early loss of Ryan Rickelton (8).

Delano Potgieter provided late fireworks down the order, carrying on his good form in the tournament, with a 29 off 18 balls while Dewald Brevis, who surprisingly came in at number seven, struck 14 from nine deliveries to take the home side above the 170-run mark.

The Royals' run-chase got off to decent start with teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Joe Root adding 38 in just three overs.

The game was broken open by the Rabada (2-22) though as he first removed England international Root (26 off 14 balls) before having young left-hander Pretorius (26 off 12 balls) caught on the third-man boundary.

The visitors then capitulated with spinner George Linde coming to the fore with figures of 3-15 while home captain Rashid Khan took 2-28.

The teams will face off again in the Cape derby at Boland Park in Paarl on Wednesday.
