SA U19 Women take one step closer to historic World Cup crown

South Africa U19 Women's cricket team took a massive leap towards a maiden title as they beat Australia in the ICC Women's U19 T20 World Cup semi-final on Friday.

SA recorded a historic five-wicket victory over the Aussies in Kuala Lumpur, and will face the winner between reigning champions India and previous edition's runners-up England in the final on Sunday.

Ashley van Wyk claimed the player of the match honours as she starred with the ball, claiming four wickets for 17 runs, as Australia were restricted to just 105/8 inside their 20-over innings.

SA's Jemma Botha led from the front as she tallied 37 runs off 24 balls at the top of the order, while skipper Kayla Renecke put up a captain's knock of 26 to allow the middle order to take the team over the line.

In this second edition of the U19 Women's World Cup, this has been the junior Proteas Women's first venture into the knockout stages, as they now look to emulate the senior side who finished runners-up in the 2023 and 2024 T20 World Cups.

The South Africans remain unbeaten throughout the tournament, having won all three of their pool stage matches against New Zealand, Samoa, and Nigeria, before overcoming Ireland en route the semi-final stage.
