According to information gathered by SABC Sport, the Buccaneers hardman is in the final months of his initial agreement and it’s understood talks are ongoing.
Motshwari joined the Soweto giants in 2018 from the now defunct Bidvest Wits – a year after helping them win the league title under coach Gavin Hunt.
Hunt is now back at SuperSport and could have an influence in whether Matsatsantsa add the midfielder to their roster next season.
SuperSport are already weighing up their options in planning ahead considering they currently have players in that position who are on short-term contracts in Siphesihle Ndlovu and Grant Margeman.
Ndlovu joined from Pirates at the start of the season on a one-year deal with an option to extend his stay possibly on a more long term arrangement, while Margeman is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and both have been instrumental.
In the event that SuperSport lose both, Motshwari would be a solid alternative, sources have informed SABC Sport.
The 31-year-old has made 14 appearance for the Buccaneers this season under coach Jose Riveiro, but has stiff competition from Thabang Monare, Miguel Timm, Goodman Mosele and Makhehleni Makhaula, who joined the team last month.
When contacted for comment, the player’s agent confirmed talks with Pirates.
“Yes, Ben’s contract is coming to an end in June and we are still having discussions with the club about signing a new contract for him to stay,” explained Motshwari’s long time representative Palesa Mkhize.
