The duo were training with the reserve team upon Folz’ arrival, but impressed their new coach with hard work and attitude during the FIFA World Cup break.
SABC Sport has learned they are in the process of being registered this week and could feature in the game against Royal AM this weekend.
"When it comes to those two players, when I came into the club I didn't treat anyone differently and I don't give any privileges' and favoritism to anyone. Those are good players, we all can agree on that. I'm all for giving opportunity to people, whether you take it or not it's up to you.
But I'll give them an opportunity, I'll treat them with a maximum level of care as I do with everyone. No matter where you come from or what age you are. I'll give them the maximum content for them to improve, individually and collectively," Folz explained.
Qalinge arrived at Usuthu during Benni McCarthy’s time in 2021 and featured in 29 matches in two seasons, but he was discarded by Brandon Truter earlier this season. While Ekstein has been with the club since last season and featured in 13 matches. Folz aims to give the duo enough chances in the second round.
"If they grab that opportunity, it will be fantastic for us and for them. If they don't, at least I gave them an opportunity but I'm positive that they will grab it. They've already been giving us a lot in terms of attitude just like everyone else in the team.
They fit into the mood nicely. They are very much ready to cooperate and work hard for the team. So, I'm pretty sure that it's not the last time you hear from them until the end of the season," he concluded.
