Banyana Banyana goalkeepers expectations revealed for Lesotho friendly

Banyana Banyana goalkeeper coach Cameron Cox is looking to closely observe the performance of their young goalkeepers in the first international friendly match against Lesotho on Saturday.

The youthful Banyana squad are looking to impress the technical team before their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup Nations final preparations get underway next month.

With Dineo Magagula (TS Galaxy), Kebotseng Moletsane (UWC), Casey Gordon (JVW FC) and Kgomotso Mussimango (Mamelodi Sundowns) selected for the final squad, Cox emphasised the importance of gaining international experience.

"Obviously we would like to give both young goalkeepers some game-time, and our expectations from them is to have a clean sheet, firstly," said Cox.

"And then also just for them to get some international experience."

Cox, who led a three-day goalkeeping camp to grow their depth in that department, was impressed with the players’ work ethic, but believes they still need to improve when it comes to playing with the intensity of international football.

"There is obviously huge potential, they showed great resilience and their work ethic was also very good, but just in terms of intensity, they struggled a little there," he added.

"But I think, with ongoing training and proper goalkeeper coaching maybe at their clubs, they can really improve and become some of the top keepers in South Africa."
