This time of the year presents challenges as some of the players are unavailable due to upcoming examinations, while others are sidelined by injuries.
However, Ellis exudes confidence in her squad’s capability to confront the enigmatic DRC.
The stakes are high, with a coveted spot in the upcoming Olympics in Paris next year hanging in the balance.
Ellis is determined to secure Banyana’s third appearance at the Games.
"I think it was extremely difficult but because we've got a group of players, we can go to that group and see what is needed. It's not just the exams, it's the injuries as well but I think we've got a well-balanced squad. I think we have enough [players] but we won't underestimate DR Congo," Ellis said.
Although Banyana’s strengths and weaknesses are well-documented, DRC remains a closed book with limited available information about the opposition.
However, the coach is confident that she has diligently prepared for the match by thoroughly analysing and researching the opponents.
"We've got some footage of the games; we know what their strengths are and yes that game against Botswana takes me back. I think if we had scored one goal it would have been five, six, even more. We have to make sure that we take our chances,” Ellis added.
“I think this team has really grown since then. I think the team has matured since then but being African Champions it's like a final with anyone that plays against you.
So, we have to make sure that we are very professional about it. We make sure that we put the game to bed as early as possible so that we can control the game.
We are going to play on turf which is not something that we are used to but having the players that we have I think we can get away with a positive result."
