It was the visitors that enjoyed the brighter start, putting Stellenbosch under pressure. Gloveman Oscarine Masuluke was called into action in the 17th minute, fending off an effort from Malebogo Modise.
But the hosts worked their way into the match, with Iqraam Rayners providing their first chance on the half-hour mark, but his shot was dragged just wide of the post.
Midfielder Antonio van Wyk would finally break the deadlock just before the break. His low strike navigated its way through a plethora of defence to find the bottom corner, cueing celebrations.
However, it was an inauspicious start to the second stanza for Stellenbosch, as Ismael Toure was shown his second yellow card and subsequently given his marching orders.
Chippa began to gain ascendency and Craig Martin would be at the end of a fast counter-attack with a good finish in the box.
With a share of the spoils, Stellenbosch remained in fourth on the PSL table while Chippa were also unmoved in 12th place.
