Collin Benjamin expects hostility ahead of Namibia’s AFCON qualifiers

Namibia coach Collin Benjamin stopped short of labelling their AFCON qualification draw the group of death, having been pitted against Cameroon, Kenya and Zimbabwe.

The Brave Warriors learnt their fate last week as the build-up to 2025 edition in Morocco starts to gain momentum.

Benjamin says they can expect hostility during the fixtures away from home.

"To a certain extent, it's like the previous [AFCON qualifying] group repeated again, with Cameroon, Kenya and Zimbabwe – it's really tough," said Benjamin.

"It's going to be hostile matches in Yaoundé, in Harare, and in Nairobi."

The 45-year-old mentor leads Namibia into the final of the COSAFA Cup this afternoon against Angola, and believes the tournament has contributed to their preparations for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

"This is why I think this [COSAFA] final on Sunday, and our previous games at COSAFA are so valuable for us and our players," he added.

"And for that we have to give props to COSAFA for giving us this platform – they're doing a great job for – I don't know how many years now? 30 years, because I was a player at 17 and played in the COSAFA Cup."
