Desiree Ellis and Maude Khumalo announced squads for international friendlies and COSAFA Women’s Championships

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis says the upcoming international friendly matches against Denmark and England will be a great opportunity to test the team as they look to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.

Ellis named her 23-woman squad which saw Mamelodi Sundowns’ Andile Dlamini making her return to the national team, joining TS Galaxy Queens’ Dineo Magagula and  squad regular Kaylin Swart as goalkeepers.

The squad also highlights the growing number of South African internationals - with seven players who ply their trade overseas getting a call up, including the first South African player to play in the Saudi Women’s Premier League Noxolo Cesane and her twin sister Sinoloxo Cesane who plays for Mazatlan FC in Mexico.

She also included regular faces as such Hilda Magaia, Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Motlalo.

The national team’s European tour will start at Aalborgh Stadium against Denmark on 25 October, followed  by a clash Egland at the Coventry Building Society Arena on 29 October.

Meanwhile coach Maude Khumalo will lead the second Banyana Banyana squad that will participate in the 2024 COSAFA Women’s Championships in Gqeberha from 22 October  – 2 November 2024.

The former U20 Women’s National Team coach has called up a mix of players who are actively playing in the HollywoodBets Super League, with many of them having played for the U17 and U20 junior teams.

This includes, Gugu Dlamini and Ayesha Moosa of University of Johannesburg ladies and JVW’s Tanna Hollis.

Banyana Banyana have been drawn in Group A against Eswatini, Seychelles and Namibia.
